No.

Supplementary provisions 1950-51.

Miscellaneous Services - Printing and binding.

I seek your authority, in accordance with your despatch No.302 of 25th September 1948, for a supplementary provision of $500,000 under Head 22 subhead 16 in the 1950-51 account.

2.

The cost of printing and the volume of work have both continued to rise during the year.

There was, in fact, a small excess on this subhead in 1949-50 but the provision was not increased in 1950/51 as it was hoped to economize to the extent of this excess. Apart from the rising costs of paper, two other factors have caused additional expenditure, namely, the complete revision of General Orders and requirements connected with measures for civil defence. It is proposed to increase the provision for this subhead to $1,250,000 in the 1951-52 estimates and to enforce economy wherever possible.
